A type of garden pest I’ve learned to live with…

Bonnie & Lenny

Bonnie and Lenny are two adorable Beagliers (Beagle and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel cross). As you can see, the result is very cute. Bonnie (on the left) is mine and is a little over a year old while Lenny is on loan for a year while his owner is overseas. He’s two and a half years old.

They get along famously but can cause some havoc in the garden. Lenny loves to chase Bonnie through the vegies, ripping through the plants which is why I fence off the sensitive ones.

They both love to dig up things I’ve just planted to get to the Blood n Bone I put in the planting hole. Last week I replanted my strawberries 5 times because Lenny kept digging them up! Amazingly, most of them survived. He stopped finally when I put a layer of pea straw on top. Something to note for next time…
